Rules and fees change, so confirm anything important with the official source linked at the bottom of each page.

What this site is

A plain-language summary of the states' published inspection rules, written so drivers can find the schedule, the fee and the retest rules without reading regulations. It is not an official government website and it does not sell inspections, repairs or insurance.

This site is not affiliated with any state DMV, state police agency or environmental agency, or with any repair shop or inspection station, including any business that has a similar name or that you may have been looking for. For station hours, prices and appointments, contact the station directly.

How the information is sourced

Every figure comes from an official state source: DMV, state police and environmental agency websites and, where a fee is set by law, the statute. We do not use numbers from third-party sites. Each page lists its sources and the date the information was checked. The most recent check was on October 24, 2026.

We cover a state only after its rules can be verified on an official source. If an official site cannot be read or sources conflict, we leave that state out until it can be confirmed.
